As I said, there will be some mango recipes coming to the blog in the upcoming months… Today a simple yet delicious smoothie: a mango and yogurt smoothie. Can’t get any easier than that.
This smoothie is also called a mango lassi which is a typical drink in India. A lassi is any yogurt-based drink that can be either sweet or salty and, as you can imagine, there are multiple variations: with or without milk added, with or without spices, etc. Today I just went with the plain simple version of it: mango + yogurt.
If you read my previous post, you know that we have three huge mango trees in our backyard, which means we have a LOT of mangoes. A LOT. A LOT. Many of the mangoes that fall down are already too ripe for our taste and they become smoothie material 😉. In fact, I always keep a jar of pureed mango in the fridge ready to eat straight up – my kids love it and snack on it all day long- or to use it for my smoothies.
This mango and yogurt smoothie can be used as a base for many other smoothies: you can add strawberries, banana, orange… you name it, or a hint of lime juice to make it a bit tangy. Some people add honey or sugar to their smoothies, but there is absolutely no need in this smoothie (or any other, for that matter). Ripe mangoes are naturally super sweet, so make yourself a favor and save yourself of those empty extra calories.
I like to use Greek yogurt in my smoothies to start the day with some extra protein in the body, but any type of yogurt is fine. It is also a bit thick in consistency so if you’re not into thick consistencies, I recommend adding some milk (any type you use) to it.
