Do you want a four-ingredient dinner, easy to put together and super delicious? Well, this is it! This chicken with cabbage and soy sauce will become a regular in your kitchen. I promise. This is what happened to us. Since my friend Dacil gave me the recipe some time ago, I’ve been doing it over and over again.
What do you need for the chicken cabbage and soy sauce?
You just need chicken breast, an onion, cabbage and soy sauce. That’s it. Let’s talk about them:
Chicken breast: I’ve only done this recipe with chicken breast, but I’m sure thighs or even drumsticks would taste as good. Cut the breasts in thin slices or bite size cubes for easy eating. I strongly recommend marinating the chicken with the soy sauce for 30 min before making the dish for a moist tender chicken. But if you don’t have the time, just skip it and it will be ok too.
Onion: everything tastes better with some sautéed onion, doesn’t it? Dacil uses leek for this recipe but as I don’t always have it handy, I usually go with onion.
Cabbage: I normally use green cabbage, but I’ve done it with purple and it is beautiful too. Cabbage is a great low-carb veggie packed with vitamin K and C, so keep it coming!
Soy sauce: it makes the dish extremely tasty. I recommend using low sodium soy sauce otherwise the dish can come out very salty. I use low sodium and even then I do not add salt to it.
How do you prepare this chicken?
Start marinating your already cut chicken with the soy sauce (you can skip this step if you’re in a rush).
While it marinates, cut the onion in wedges and the cabbage in thin strips.
Sautee the onion in a bit of olive oil.
Add the chicken with the soy sauce to the pan and cook for a few min.
Add the cabbage and cover. Cook for 10-15 min.
This is it. A great healthy flavorful dinner. Serve it with some rice and you’re good to go.
