These baked apples are my mom’s recipe. They bring me memories of growing up, and I associate them with winter.
They are extremely easy to prepare and you just need 4 ingredients: apples (I always use golden delicious bc I like their sweetness), sugar, butter and cinnamon.
Just clean the apples, trim the top off and put some sugar, cinnamon and butter on top. Bake and you’re done.
I bake them for a long time (1 hour 15 min) because I like my baked apples in an almost compote consistency, but if you like them less pureed and more firm, with 45-60 min you will be good. You can see in the picture that they break apart.
They make fancy dessert from a non fancy ingredient (apples….).
Clean apples and cup off a bit of the top part where the stem is (you can leave the stem on – see picture). Alternatively, you can remove the heart of the apple with an apple core peeler.
Arrange the apples in an oven proof baking pan. Sprinkle the apples with the sugar and cinnamon, and put a dice of butter to the cut top part of each apple.
Bake for 1 h aprox. If you want a more firm consistency with 45 min you will be good, and if you want a more compote-like consistency, you’ll have to leave them a bit longer, 1 h 15 min aprox.
