Ok, avocado toast. Here is the thing: it’s versatile, delicious, healthy and satisfying. What’s not to like?
The great thing about avocado toast is that you only need three ingredients to make a good one: bread, avocado and salt. And from here you can take it to any level. I personally like my avocado with lime juice and cilantro, but when those are not handy, plain avocado and salt will do it for me.
The same goes for the toppings: 98% of the time I don’t have time or the ingredients to make a more elaborated avocado toast with fancy toppings, so plain avocado goes. For sure it’s more fun with toppings but I don’t let that be a deterrent for making it.
Here I used the following toppings:
Chopped cilantro
Paprika
Smoked salmon and dill
Everything bagel seasoning
Chili flakes
Mozzarella pearls, cherry tomatoes and balsamic vinegar reduction
As for the bread, I like to use multigrain because it gives a more hearty flavor to it, and you feel you’re eating something really healthy… but any type of bread will make a good avocado toast. Most of the times we eat it with regular sandwich bread, whatever is in our pantry.
What I love about it is that it can be a great breakfast, lunch, snack or dinner. Avocados are a good source of fiber and healthy fats (that’s why you feel full after eating it), and they also are a great source of several micronutrients, such as vitamin E and K.
The most versatile dish you’ll ever find: breakfast, lunch, snack or dinner! Healthy and satisfying.
Ingredients
Scale
2–4 slices bread (I like multigrain, but any type of bread will do)
1 avocado
salt
Optional (for topping):
1–2 tsp lime juice
cilantro, chopped
smoked salmon
dill, chopped
mozzarella pearls
cherry tomatoes
paprika
chili flakes
everything bagel seasoning
Instructions
Toast bread.
Mash avocado with a fork. Season to taste with salt. Add lime juice and chopped cilantro to taste as well.
Spread mashed avocado over the toast.
Top with toppings of your choice, if any.
Notes
I usually make my avocado mash with cilantro and lime juice, but it is not necessary to prepare a nice avocado toast. It’s just a matter of preference and if you have the ingredients in hand.
The toppings are totally optional for an avocado toast. Here I used chopped cilantro, paprika, smoked salmon and dill, chili flakes, everything bagel seasoning, and cherry tomatoes, mozzarella pearls and balsamic vinegar reduction.
